A discussion with director Jennifer Abbott and Ashlee Cunsolo, film subject and founding dean of the School of Arctic & Subarctic Studies at the Labrador Institute, about the connection between grief and climate change and how our emotional connection to the natural world can be a catalyst for action.

Ashlee Cunsolo, PhD, is the founding Dean of the School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies of the Labrador Institute of Memorial University, a former Canada Research Chair, and a member of the Royal Society of Canada College of New Artists, Scholars, and Scientists. She is a leading voice internationally on climate change, mental health, and ecological grief, a regular contributor to media and policy, and editor of Mourning Nature: Hope at the Heart of Ecological Grief and Loss. She is a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and partner, living and learning as a guest on the homelands of the Innu and Inuit in Labrador, Canada.

Jennifer Abbott is a Sundance and Genie award-winning filmmaker who has been making films about urgent social, political and environmental issues for 25 years. She is best known as the co-director and editor of The Corporation, frequently described as the most successful documentary in Canadian history. She also co-directed, co-wrote and edited Us & Them; co-wrote and edited Sea Blind; executive produced and edited I Am; and made the short Brave New Minds, among other films. In 2020, Abbott will release two feature documentaries: The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel (co-director and supervising editor) and The Magnitude of All Things (writer, director, editor, sound design and co-producer).
