Come out with your bestie, grab the famalay, and dress in your best version Black Barbie - or perhaps rock her iconic red and gold! Enjoy sweets, treats and mocktails, prizes and entertainment, and shop at a market of local Black vendors.

Feature Film Screening: When Black Barbie arrived on the scene in the 1980s, it was a transformative moment. Love her or hate her, almost everyone has a Barbie story. Through intimate auntie access to charismatic Mattel insider, Beulah Mae Mitchell, filmmaker Lagueria Davis explores the path that led to the creation of the first Black Barbie and the influence that she has had.

Lagueria Davis
Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Lagueria Davis grew up in a household where her dreams had to be practical, which is how she found herself at the University of Oklahoma double majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Three years and three internships later, her need to create consumed her, and she landed in the School of Art. Davis worked in production before landing a Writers PA position on season two of The L Word: Generation Q. Davis has several feature specs and four original pilots under her belt. She is a 2016 Academy Nicholl Quarterfinalist and is a four-time Austin Film Festival Second Rounder. As a queer, INFJ aquarian, born in the year of the horse, Davis is as unique as her name. Black Barbie is her first feature documentary.
