Feature Film Screening: When Black Barbie arrived on the scene in the 1980s, it was a transformative moment. Love her or hate her, almost everyone has a Barbie story. Through intimate auntie access to charismatic Mattel insider, Beulah Mae Mitchell, filmmaker Lagueria Davis explores the path that led to the creation of the first Black Barbie and the influence that she has had.
Event: Glittery Black Barbie party hosted by The Kween Company to celebrate Sistas, Aunties, Grannies, and Mamas, and post-film conversation with director Lagueria Davis. Note: Pre-event is for all African, Caribbean, and Black representing folx. The event is then open to the public from 7pm on, including a market of local Black vendors, the screening, and director talkback.
