Feature Film Screening: What is essential in a time of upheaval? Grappling with a global pandemic and a live music shutdown, hard touring band July Talk books the Stardust Drive-In Theatre north of Toronto for two nights in August, 2020. As July Talk plans for its only live shows of 2020, the band confronts deep uncertainties: a public health emergency, financial risk, and the sudden onset of a chronic illness in one of its members.
Emerging director Brittany Farhat documents the months of panic and epiphany as the drive-in shows take shape. Combining the real-time concert with unreleased archival footage of the highs and lows over a decade, finds the band at a thoughtful crossroads of identity and circumstance. Out of crisis comes magic.
Post-film: An intimate performance by Peter + Leah of July Talk, followed by a conversation about their experiences making July Talk: Love Lives Here.
